More than just massage...

About Me

Aloha! My name is Janèlle. I was born and raised on the island of O‘ahu in Hawai‘i. My most important training has come from life itself—especially in raising three vibrant children and caring for my forth child, my father—attending all of his medical appointments to ensure he lives as long as he can. It opened my eyes to the causes of health challenges and ways to address them effectively.

Prior to that, I grew up in a family where massage was a normal part of daily life. Grampa Bill was my first mentor, whose large, skilled, and comforting hands gave the family massages on a regular basis—leaving us completely melted in relaxation (I miss that so much). He definitely kept us healthy. Years later is when we realized how exceptional he really was.

Sports was also a big part of our family. I now know how valuable it is in teaching about movement, tension, injury, recovery, and experiencing the differences between “good pain” and “bad pain.”

In 2017, my aunt found Shinichi Tsukamoto (of Total Body Care) in Kapahulu, whose techniques and hybrid method of Sports Massage, Shiatsu, and Acupressure opened my eyes to the possibility of massage as a career. It lead me to the island’s most diverse massage education at Kapi‘olani Community College where we trained in Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Acupressure, Foot Reflexology, Lomi Lomi, Pregnancy Massage, Sports Massage, and Massage for the Elderly & Frail, while also studying Anatomy, Biology (thank you, David C., PhD!), Kinesiology, Pathology, and Physiology.  Receiving my licensure in 2018, this comprehensive training gave me a strong foundation for understanding how the body works as a miraculous whole.

During that time, a random couple told me out about Chinese fitness instructor, Sifu Corey Wong (of Asian Horizons). His knowledge and expertise are the reasons why my flexibility, agility, and balance increased drastically in just one month. I've had many coaches, instructors, and trainers in my life yet no one teaches like him. He not only helps my physical abilities, he helps me overcome fears that I never thought I could.

Working with and meeting countless people over the years has proven that stretching is the single most important exercise. I’ll always remember my favorite physical trainer at 24-Hour Fitness: Barbara, a 72-year-old former ballerina. She is the only one who made sure we stretched after every workout and was adamant about how critical it is—not just for active people, but even more for inactivity (sitting and laying around).

At Shinichi’s workshops, my classmate Yukie (who, astonishingly, turned out to be Sifu’s wife!) asked if I’d like to learn facial reflexology from a woman in Spain. While reading the bio of Lone Sorensen and the description of the modules, I knew THIS WAS IT. Her one-of-a-kind system and 40+ years of working with people all over the world brings unparalleled insight to my practice.
